Mid-Ride and the Pride

Mid-Ride and the Pride

No Wrest for the Wicked

The fox-hunting season began,

As horses and hounds swiftly ran -

The boy’s name was Reed,

The pony’s Stampede.

Grandfather held on with one hand.

Herein they began a quick trip,

As mini attempted to flip.

The little one wailed,

But honor prevailed,

As Senior lost not his strong grip.

A Gift to Lift

A hanky may seem scant relief

When we, in the thickest of grief,

From woeful to worst,

Drift downward in thirst,

But surely it tops one’s own sleeve.

Still, somehow, as hand reaches out,

Connection may righten our route.

The simplest, small gift

A spirit may lift,

Relating a reasonable doubt.

Though rivers of tears may explode,

As we lumber under the load,

A mere word of peace

May offer release,

And send us renewed on the road.

A Ghost in Daylight?

A-browsing at the shopping mall

Revealed surprise in bathroom stall –

When standing backwards on the right

A gentleman pursued his plight.

Alas, within the ladies’ room,

The man persisted to presume.

And exiting, without a doubt,

I waited till he zipped back out.

The lesson? Look before you go

Re-read the signs – you never know.

Bugging Out

Bugging Out

Cricket Surprise

We store stinky sneakers outside,

To open-air breathing provide.

Perhaps a surprise

May open our eyes –

This hygiene may best be denied.

This morning, while driving to school,

Our neighborly gossip did fuel –

As out of one shoe

A black cricket flew,

I slammed on the brakes like a fool.

My teen had been lacing one sneak,

Perfecting the latest technique.

But deep in the toe,

The bug did not show,

And she had not bothered to peek.

The crunchy-shelled critter discrete,

Hopped under the passenger seat.

We jumped on the grass,

As neighbors drove past,

While staring in wonder complete.

Averting catastrophe, yet,

A moment we’d sooner forget,

The bug reappeared,

As we might have feared,

And we nearly our pants did wet.
