Carol On: A Haiku A-Peal for Christmas Real

Carol On: A Haiku A-Peal for Christmas Real

Shoppers’ coins jingling –
Does He ring a bell at all?
Happy birthday, King.

Hurry Up, Healing

Hurry Up, Healing
A Senryu for Mending Past Due

Have you ever broken a bone or two? One of my favorite horses tossed me in the dirt about six weeks ago. This practically perfect pony went from plum tuckered out to a boisterous buck-fest in a heartbeat, as a hornet stung him. And I went flying.

In fact, we had to toss my equestrian safety helmet, which was cracked.

Stumbling to my feet and staggering into the emergency room, I found out I had sustained at least 10 fractures. You might say I’ve been sidelined awhile, and I’m growing a bit more antsy each day.

If you’ve experienced a fairly significant injury in your lifetime, you probably know the feeling, when you just want to hurry up the healing.

Hurry Up, Healing
A Senryu for Mending Past Due

Can’t stand sitting still.
Disregarding doctors’ words.
C’mon, fractures! Heal!

Zillion Zigzags

Zillion Zigzags
(posted for the A to Z Challenge)

Z is for Zillion … and Zigzags.

A Zillion Zigzags

Zipping and zooming,
Every signal sends us off,
Soul-borne GPS.

Who will call us home?
What magnetic pole directs,
If the arrow fails?

Footfalls may deceive,
A zillion zigzags mark time.
Destination waits.

Note: Like a haiku, a senryu contains three lines with a set syllabic pattern (5-7-5). The main difference is thematic. The haiku examines nature and universal truth, while the senryu focuses on foibles of mankind and often irony. Many people use the terms interchangeably, but poetic purists mark the difference between the two verse forms.

Thanksgiving Alert

Thanksgiving Alert

Just for fun, I tried concocting a “Big Day Poem” to celebrate Thanksgiving.

Here is a Thanksgiving Senryu.

Instant Recall

I am so thankful,
Blessings greater than my woes
Let me not forget.

Have a happy Thanksgiving!

Holiday Haiku Trio

Holiday Haikus

Do you like haiku poetry?
Do you write haikus?

A haiku contains 17 syllables in three lines (5-7-5). Technically, a lighthearted haiku is usually more correctly called a senryu. Of course, that may be mincing words or splitting hairs.

Holiday haiku poems are simple and fun. Why not write your own today?

Please leave a comment
, so we can all enjoy your holiday haiku!

The Game of Peace
(Haikus at Play)

Athletic genius:
The world’s finest congregate.
For the Olympics.

Beginning the games,
Shelving hostilities here,
For two world-watched weeks.

Can it continue?
Could good sportsmanship carry
Past the final race?

Flower Master - Haikus in Bloom

Flower Master –
Haikus in Bloom

Nurturing colors,
The Master fondly pruning,
Tends His budding shoots.

Soon, blossoms appear.
Vibrant beauty springs to life.
Step back, and admire.

Gentle hands caress,
Picking out the finest blooms
For a grand display.

The Artist shows off,
Admiring His handiwork,
As do all of us.

That’s where life began,
In the Maker’s own garden,
And where life will end.

Friendly Fire - A Haiku Revue

(Written upon request of Mad Kane’s prompt on “temper” and Read-Write-Poem’s “study in contrasts” prompt.)

Friendly Fire –
A Haiku Revue

Temper tossed away,
Clipping pins from live grenades,
Lobbing verbal bombs.

Hair-trigger anger,
Set off by a sudden noise,
Post-traumatic stress.

Who did this to you?
And who painted the target
On peacemaker’s back?

Call off the bombers.
The secret snipers are gone.
No reason to shoot.

Words of Life - A Trifold Haiku of Life Told True

(Written upon request of Mad Kane’s prompt on “poems on poetry” or “poems on writing.”)

Words of Life –
A Trifold Haiku of Life Told True

What is poetry?
Images, metaphors, words
Or a work of art?

Hearts poured on parchment,
Lives shared, through spirits expressed.
Never-ending truth.

What is poetry?
Untaught, but experienced.
Poetry is life.
