Yard Beast

In hare-raising circumstances, the best leverage may come quite naturally.

My domain is under a dare.
This gardener is reaching despair.
Each plant that I sow
Does get up and go,
And I blame an oversized hare.

This steroidal creature dines well.
Of that we can patently tell.
With swagger she’ll eat
Then stagger to feet –
Off under my shed, there to dwell.

I’m sure she has family to feed,
And nature preserving’s my creed.
But blooms disappear;
She grins ear to ear.
Must I territory concede?

At last, I can see through the fog.
It’s time to respond, go whole-hog.
Look out, bunny girl.
Get lost. Take a whirl.
Ears up, as I send out my dog.

Wednesday

Pickin’ Up Pounds

Perhaps pudding’s proof is found in the poof.

A new baker’s dozen,
The doughnut does fill.
Temptation is buzzin’,
Eclipsing the will.

Pie in the sky
On your thigh,
In your eye –
Heavy sigh.

Mere calories nameless
May do one no harm.
Meandering mindless,
Resolve they disarm.

Physicians can’t sidestep:
The pot, still it grows.
They test everything ‘cept
Pinocchio’s nose.

Pie in the sky
On your thigh,
In your eye –
Heavy sigh.

But no pie that’s humble,
No penitent tart –
The oafish crust’s mumble
Will gain no fresh start.

‘Tis those who keep measures,
Not willing to flake,
Who fear not such pleasures
And thus take the cake.

Thursday

Epicure and Couture? Not Sure.

Epicure and Couture? Not Sure.

Let’s don our duds and do the town.
We’ll hit the house and bring it down.
The price-less menu hints at class,
The waiter too, so be not crass.

Glance left and right; size up the joint.
Look at the crowd, but please don’t point.
Your collar’s crisp; your pleats are pressed.
And yet I find I’m blushing, stressed.

No algorithm makes it so,
No matter where you choose to go.
This much is true, the very least:
One can dress up and still be beast.

Reset in Motion

Friends sharing food can leave us renewed.

Reset in Motion

My girls and I just broke some bread.
I’ll share no secrets that were said,
Except to say
Without delay,
We’re mostly glad the past is dead.

We choose the chance to chill and chug,
To raise a glass and lift a mug.
No time for fools,
Such friends are jewels.
We cry and crow and simply shrug.

To look at loves and labors lost,
To try each truth and count the cost,
We for a song
Do come along
To clear our chests at any cost.

Still, must we count the years a bust,
If by the trip we’ve learned to trust?
Each painful stroll
And shifty soul
Once thus examined, blows as dust.

In voices raspy, whispered woes
As errant chords do decompose.
Sweet music drifts.
Each spirit lifts.
And troubles fly where Heaven-knows.
