Under the Whether

(Hot is hot, whether or not it leaves me fraught.)

I used to love to stand in steam;
Hot showers were my friend.
But now they’re just a horrid dream –
I totter till they end.

It’s not that I despise the drip,
And I still lather clean.
But heat can send me on a trip
Requiring Dramamine.

Such paroxysms make me reel;
I’m glad to have a rail.
An unintentional cartwheel
Would go beyond the pale.

My hands and feet no more may prune.
I rinse off and step out.
Before I can belt out a tune,
It’s time to stop the spout.

Saturday

Stud, Sweat and Smears

 A muscle man who puffs and preens
Beside the fitness room’s machines
Does draw attention, but no cheers,
And nearly brings us all to tears.

 He struts his stuff around the gym,
But his aroma’s gross and grim.
Methinks he thinks he’s power posh;
The rest of us just wish he’d wash.
