Farewell to Mr. Know-It-All

Sometimes friends show up in unexpected places and cause us to ponder and think hard and maybe laugh even harder. And then they are gone. And even if we have never seen one another face to face, we are saddened by the loss.

Here’s a verse in tribute of just such a friend. I am praying comfort and peace over the family of Galen, the G-man and self-titled Mr. Know-It-All. And thank for the Flash-55 reading and writing fun over the years.

Farewell to Mr. Know-It-All

Discovering a friend has died,

Although we never met, I cried.

His unexpected point-of-view

Stirred me to look at life askew.

He prompted us to laugh and write

In 55-word form delight.

A storyteller to amuse

With constant quips and quirky views,

Sir Galen, ride in full array.

We’ll miss you, as you ride away.

Of Mice and Mien – A poetic glance, perhaps askance

Of Mice and Mien –
A poetic glance, perhaps askance

If your life story was a book, what would it be titled? What would its chapter titles be?
(Imagination Prompt - Creativity Portal)

Of Mice and Mien

A hunk of cheese a mouse may catch,
Enticing him beyond his match.
Reward’s allure
May him assure
To meet the one who’ll him dispatch.

A gifted gamer, most intense
With interest in his own two cents
Might toss a chip,
Shoot from the hip,
To banish common sense from thence.

An easy mark with meek mien,
The jackpot seeker goes all-in.
He eyes the prize
With bleary eyes.
The trap is set in danger’s den.

Across the table, truth awaits
And watches folly, sans debates.
He holds his peace
With elbow grease,
The mouse to snare with fortune’s baits.

Occasionally, treasures rot
Like rich rewards intense, hard-fought.
A jumping joint
May disappoint
And bring a fouler food for thought.

The cheese ferments and casts a scent.
The mousey man, alas, poor gent --
The die was cast
To flabbergast,
And he must yet come up with rent.

Picking Bones with Sticks and Stones

No sticks and no stones
E’er have broken our bones.
Barbaric such tactics would be.

But what sort of hell
Comes in as a yell?
What manner of snit
Does sputter and spit?
What fool won’t admit
The words ne’er legit?
And who will permit
Such a folly unfit?

The most grievous groans
Leave unwelcome unknowns.
Instead, they bring harm’s guarantee.

Crafty Lobbies

Crafty Lobbies

Beware of both sides of the lobby,
Where practiced may be much hobnobby.
Each end needs a pill
To swallow and swill,
Before someone forms a lynch mobby.

For crafty these lobbyers be.
They seek to knit issues for free.
Perhaps both have lost
At premium cost,
Despite a Supreme Court decree.
