which (ungloriously) may be all but gone!
Manners seem to have flown away and gone awry,
and courtesy is on hiatus.
Who’s to blame?

(A Limericked Twist on Class Dismissed)
Eagerly, we fill our planners,
Waving still our angry banners.
We forget
Etiquette;
What has happened to our manners?
Waving still our angry banners.
We forget
Etiquette;
What has happened to our manners?
At the table, in the store,
On the freeway – hear us roar.
Rushed? You bet.
Ruder yet.
Each of us becomes a boor.
Courtesy has disappeared.
Kindness flew, as many jeered.
Witty quips
And bolder blips
Flaunt what our forefathers feared.
Still, we scramble to impress
When we ought to bow, confess.
Class-less clowns,
Earning frowns,
For our manners are a mess.

ReplyDeleteWow! You worked a lot into that post!
ReplyDeleteSad about manners, isn't it? My son has actually been considered weird because he has good manners and doesn't ditch them with his peers.
And believe it or not, it wasn't the other kids who think so, it was the parents!
No wonder their kids don't have good manners!
Excellent question. Who is to blame? I'm tempted to say all of us... but then I remember that some of us use manners are our courteous to others. No easy answer :)
ReplyDeleteVery full post! I was just thinking about posting something along the line of whatever happened to good manners. (I need to do some housework first.)
