Poker Face

Poker Face

There once was a woman named Ann,
So handsome they thought her a man.
She buried an ace
With her poker face
And took home the haul as she’d planned.

Ann had no dear dreams of delight,
Nor ‘visioned herself clad in white.
She weathered the test,
Cards close to her chest,
And purchased her palace sans knight.

Fast Lane

Fast Lane

Do you know any kinetic kids

Personally, I have often wondered if there is any other kind. These youngsters live in the fast lane, in perpetual motion - with no middle speed between alert and asleep.

But who would want it any other way?

My Snow Angel

My snow angel wiggles in place,
Her bottled-up vigor to trace.
But soon she will rise
To raise high her eyes
And rouse all onlookers to race.

Pulling His Own Weight
A Limericked Degree on an Old M.V.P.

A once famous player named Moe
Was sporting a new sort of glow.
He crowed at his wife
To blame for his strife
Instead of the stuff he would stow.

His dental appointments raised dread,
And so did his middle-aged spread.
Guess that’s the result
From joining the cult
Of eating and drinking in bed.

Glassy Eyed

Glassy Eyed

Sometimes biology is hysterical. Perhaps that’s not exactly so. On occasion, those who pay for biology (or don’t) may make us hysterical. OK, that’s it.

Seeing Double Trouble -
A Limericked Dare on Modern Health Care

An elderly fellow named James
Filed too many policy claims.
Insurers cried nix
To surgical fix,
So now James just wears empty frames.

Comfy Blues

Comfy Blues

Melancholy Bliss
Mystery in Rhymes for Twofold Times

Perhaps the perfect afternoons
Bear bluesy melodies, sad tunes.
We choose our hues
And lose the clues
When all we seek are blessing’s boons.

For in our mournful moments, light
May disconnect the bleakest blight.
Our saddest sighs
Oft raise our eyes
To those who may to joys invite.

Poisoned Darts and Digging for Hearts -
A Rhyming Shot at the Valentine’s Plot

Chalking up hearts or just gathering gold
May dictate we dig deeper than we behold.
We shoulder our shovels and wait for the bell –
With pure paranoia, we theorize hell.

Perhaps we need power tools, plugged in to roar,
Instead of a balcony tryst to abhor.
And yet, we persist with a frenzied request
To race rocky romance and hope for the rest.

Does Cupid still grin, as he draws back his bow,
Or might the wee archer aim further below?
What ethics remain for the purest in heart
When victimized sorely by his poisoned dart?

To many, the meaning of Valentine tune:
The following day cannot dawn all too soon.
