Raise Your Palms Up High
(A Near-NaisaiKu for Palm Sunday and Poetry Month)

Blessed is the One,
Riding humbly on an ass,
Though He holds the world.
RAISE YOUR PALMS UP HIGH.
People gather ‘round,
Shouting accolades and praise,
Soon to turn away.

Will He rescue us
From our foes and all our fears,
Battles seen, unseen?
RAISE YOUR PALMS UP HIGH.
First, the King will die.
Buried, He will rise again.
Death will reign no more.

We behold Him now,
Riding high on His white steed,
Coming on the clouds.
RAISE YOUR PALMS UP HIGH.
Trumpets call us out.
Mounting up, we ride with Him,
His forevermore.

  4. You did a nice job incorporating the lowliness of the Jerusalem arrival with the ultimate return of the Christ.

I enjoyed the rhythm of this poem-- felt like I could sing it.
