Dumbed-down decision: A-Z verses from vintage visages

Dumbed-down decision

I’m feeling dumber. Ouch! My brain!
The cranium, it pounds with pain.
Despite resolve, the answers flee
More now than in all history.
That’s right. It’s time to vote again.

The candidates are sounding off.
They stomp and strut and scream and scoff.
Perhaps they should return to school,
Revisiting the Golden Rule.
The public needs a stronger quaff.

We harken back to days that fled,
When blood was blue and white and red.
Ideals were real and stood their ground,
Unfettered by such stupid sound.
I fear the nation's lost its head.

Can we retrace and find the trail
For which our ancestors set sail?
Simplicity may save us yet,
If we can see its silhouette.
May freedom ring and right prevail.

This poem was posted for the April A to Z Blogging Challenge and National Poetry Writing Month (NaPoWriMo). And today happens to be a Presidential Primary in my home state.
