A-Z sketches in verse: Throwing to Extremes

When hobbies become habits and enjoyments grow extreme,
While pleasures turn to pesterings and joys aren’t what they seem,
Addiction may take toxic turns and hold the captive fast.
And spices turn to poison, as the moments never last.

The highest of ambitions may be promptly overdone
To compromise convictions, burning bridges one by one.
An all-too healthy plan leaves moderation in its wake.
Exaggerated zeal may prove magnificent mistake.

Mere discipline can be enslaving, even soundest goals.
Though taken to extremes, they fill no holes deep in our souls.
As hedonistic, altruistic, unrealistic lines
May never lead to happiness; this routine joy declines.
