Go for Broke
(posted for the A to Z Challenge)
Today is Go for Broke Day. I tried researching this intriguing holiday and came up rather empty. However, as a poetic prompt, this odd occasion seems to be filled with potential. Although I am self-employed, I'm posting this one for many who have recently found themselves unexpectedly unemployed.
E is for empty pockets
Go for Broke
(Acrostic-Limerick)
Boss yells, “Duck! Here comes the slip!”
Reaching for my microchip.
On my way, I stop, salute,
Kicked out, given just a boot,
Evermore smart as a whip.
Any day now, watch and see.
Good luck ship will come for me.
As my fists find pockets bare,
I still scramble, won’t despair,
Nodding towards prosperity.
