Owing and Rowing

Owing and Rowing
(posted for the A to Z Challenge)

 O is for Owing.

Owing and Rowing

We’re paddling, but down we go.
We’re suffering from overflow.
What’s driving us into the drink?
It’s simply scarlet, dear, red ink.

As legislators lurk, hostile,
A-bickering across the aisle,
Our families flounder here mid-vote,
Just struggling to stay afloat.

The taxman calls with hat in hand
To summon funds in high demand.
It’s time to question his technique;
The super ship has sprung a leak.
