Under the Whether

(Hot is hot, whether or not it leaves me fraught.)

I used to love to stand in steam;
Hot showers were my friend.
But now they’re just a horrid dream –
I totter till they end.

It’s not that I despise the drip,
And I still lather clean.
But heat can send me on a trip
Requiring Dramamine.

Such paroxysms make me reel;
I’m glad to have a rail.
An unintentional cartwheel
Would go beyond the pale.

My hands and feet no more may prune.
I rinse off and step out.
Before I can belt out a tune,
It’s time to stop the spout.

Oh, No, You Don’t

A MonSter waits outside the door
With mayhem he has wrought before.
But he’ll be schooled;
I’ll not be fooled.
He’ll be my prisoner of war.

 It won’t be pretty. That I know.
But I am prepped for toe-to-toe.
So bring it on.
My sword is drawn.
I’ll send you back beneath, below.

 Flash fire at me, if you dare.
I’ll not be caught twice unaware.
No wilting wimp,
Though limbs go limp,
I know you’re not my worst nightmare.
