Earth or Mirth

Earth or Mirth?

As Earth Day approaches, we seem to renew our interest in preserving and protecting natural resources and the environment.

Where do we find genuine beauty and treasures, but in the great outdoors itself? Can we step out of the traffic and turmoil of our hectic schedules and drop our daily burdens long enough to enjoy the secrets that await us outside?

Egrets or Regrets –
A Tale in Verse on Styles Diverse

An Earth Day Poem

A preening lady, grown-up girl,
Has blooming blouse and skirts a-swirl.
Her hat bears plumes,
As she presumes
To flash disdaining teeth of pearl.

Yet unaware, she false may be.
For here is one more fine than she.
A plain white bird,
Unseen, unheard,
Exceeds her to a vast degree.
So natural and neatly decked,
The egret, filled with self-respect,
Cares not for style
Nor for guile,
Yet such as he must we protect.

Ubiquitous, with finest flair,
The earth displays to those who care -
Her greatest good
Misunderstood
By those who feign at savoir-faire.
