Vestiges of Voyages: A-Z verses from vintage visages

Vestiges of Voyages
A Rhyming Gale on Setting Sail

I don’t feel much like working here.
I’d rather be a buccaneer
And sail to sites still off the charts,
Adventuring in vacant parts.

I’d like to claim an honored quest,
With very valued goal obsessed.
Veracity is here required:
The husband recently retired.

My inspiration’s growing thin
Amid the daunting daily din.
Here’s my complaint and earnest plea:
“Turn down that mindless day TV!”

The furniture is rearranged,
And objects frequently are changed.
I cannot find my own supplies,
Which vanish right before my eyes.

Fresh recipes do scent the air.
New spices fill our kitchenware.
Strange objects now arise, appear:
New guest soaps, dishrags – there and here.

Forgive me, friend, for running on.
The pills may spill. We’re overdrawn.
We’ve met a crossroads in our life.
I’m not sure now who is the wife.

So hoist the sails, mate. Sally forth!
Strap headphones on, for what they’re worth.
I’m concentrating on my task.
And sipping from a dreamer’s flask.

To self-employment still resigned,
This pirate cannot fall behind.
I’ll hit the high seas in my mind.

  1. A life of adventure is always appealing even if only in our dreams.

  2. This is a clever way to talk about adjusting to your husband's retirement. I am stopping by from Tuesday at 10.
